DISCLAIMER 6/8/22: After revisiting this EP, I felt the need to drape some context around these tracks. This material was recorded in 2011/2012 and represent the early experiments that eventually lead to what would become the version of Auscultation that began with the 1080p tape—i.e. the introduction of melodies and twisting basslines, as well as a more developed and intuitive approach toward dynamics and pacing to make each track feel like a living organism in motion.

I hobbled through a lot of uncharted territory and it took a lot of time to figure out how to make the sound in my head become the sound in the track, and making this material was a big part of that process.

I was going to take this EP down because these tracks carry unintended moments of cringe-y greenness and the general sound palette and harsher, greyscale vibe are a far cry from what Auscultation would later become.

However, after giving it some thought, I'm leaving it up here to remind any listeners that with electronic music, you sometimes have to trudge through the gator-infested swamp of experimentation to push your craft toward a better place. Don't give up on attempting to convey something real through electronics, no matter how badly you want to slam your head through the monitor. If you stay dedicated to finding a voice, the personal breakthroughs are so rewarding.
